There are many things that I will miss about Stephen. His devotion to his loved ones and friends , his sense of adventure and fun and his passion for travelling the world…making new friendships wherever he went. A truly special human being who has made an unforgettable impact on so many lives including the lives of his students. I am going to remember you fondly Stephen and will keep your loved ones in my thoughts as they navigate life going forward. So glad we had the opportunity to be friends.
I knew Stephen as a coworker and as a friend. My son knew Stephen as Mr. B, his grade 6 teacher. As a teacher, he loved challenging his students with word puzzles, including sudokus and crosswords. My son recalls Mr. B’s favourite saying was “Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades!” After Stephen retired, I occasionally caught up with him and other teacher friends for lunch. I loved hearing about his travels, especially his adventures in Portugal. I will miss you, Stephen .❤
I taught with Stephen for many years. He was a passionate educator who cared for his students. They loved being in his class.
As his colleague & friend, I loved hearing of his travels and life adventures.
It was an honour to meet Stephen’s loved ones yesterday; we heard him proudly speak of them so much over the years. Stephen will be missed.
“Mr. B”… I worked with Stephen as a colleague, but he was also my children’s teacher. He helped foster a sense of independence in his students, helping them grow into confident and capable adults. He was a cheerful and welcoming presence in our building.
Mr. B led the Chess Club at our school for many years, consistently helping the club bring home county banners to proudly hang in our gym.
Mr. B also loved rhubarb! When I mentioned that I had plenty to spare, he was quick to ask if he could have some to make into his favourite springtime treats.
To Stephen’s family, a quote by Henry Adams:
“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” This is indeed true of Stephen, whose students have gone on to be a wide breadth of contributing citizens.
We will miss you, Stephen! Rest in Peace.
