elevated x2ztt Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sybil Boland (née Mathias) on May 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 93. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Malcolm. Loving mother of Sandra (the late Mark) Gignac, Anthony (Franca) Boland, Alyson (Elmer) van Beinum, and Michael (Jodi) Boland. Proud grandmother of Amanda (Juliana), Alexander (Ruthie), Marley, Nicholas (Ryla), Matthew, Jordan, Justin, Michaela and Chandler. Delighted great grandmother of Elena and Javier. Sybil cherished her family deeply. They were a source of pride and joy, and she gave them the gift of her love, her example, and her unwavering encouragement and support.

She and her husband, Malcolm Boland, later returned to Guyana to start their family. By the time they immigrated to Canada in 1968, Sybil and Malcolm had lived and worked in Guyana, Jamaica, Dominica, and Trinidad and also had 4 young children in tow. Later, Sybil’s sharp business sense and entrepreneurial spirit was behind her success in establishing a private medical laboratory in North York in 1972. A mere two years later she had opened three locations in the Metro Toronto area.

elevated x2ztt As managing director of Lawrence Medical Laboratory Ltd. Sybil took on more than just owning and operating the business. She was also one of the founding members of the City of North York Business Association in 1982 and President of the organization until 1983.

elevated x2ztt Sybil was a vibrant, energetic woman who loved life. She was a person whose presence lifted a room, whose laughter made people feel welcome, and whose example reminded others that a well lived life is built not only through strength and determination but also through shared adventures and good fun.

elevated x2ztt She will be sadly missed and held close in the hearts of her many extended family and dear friends especially the St. Rose’s alumni crowd and the ‘Limers’ who will all miss the unmistakable sound of her laughter and her fondness for mischief. Sybil leaves behind not only treasured memories, but also a living example of how to move through life with grace, determination and a positive outlook.

elevated x2ztt Our family would like to express our gratitude for your generous support, kind words, and heartfelt prayers during this difficult time. A special thanks to the staff at Amica the Glebe in Ottawa, who cared for mum during her stay and who, at the end of her well lived life, supported her with kindness and compassion.
