elevated YfEfd Obituary

elevated YfEfd With both sadness and peace we announce the gentle passing of Tina Policelli (née La Penna) at the age of 82; a much-loved wife, mother, nonna, aunt, sister and friend.
Tina will live forever in the hearts of her true love and husband of 62 years, Tony Policelli, her three children, and their spouses, John (May), Marianne (Stefano), and Anthony (Kayla) along with the seven grandchildren in whom she took such pride: Christopher, Kassandra, Carolina, Isabella, Jacob, Elia, and Nash.

elevated YfEfd Tina was born at the end of 1942 in Roseto Valfortore, Foggia, Italia, in the midst of the Second World War. Her father, Giuseppe La Penna was among the first of his generation from that town to come to Canada, working in the coal mines of Sydney, Nova Scotia in the 1950s and later, moving to settle in southwest Toronto. He was joined first by his eldest sons, followed by his wife Caterina and their other children, including Tina, who was just a young girl.

elevated YfEfd Tina was the second-youngest of 6 siblings, the late Maria Donata Sabetti (Salvatore), the late Philip La Penna (Lucy), the late Tony La Penna, the late Lucy Ionno (Filippo) and is survived by her brother, Michael La Penna (Dina).  She also loved her in-laws: the late Beatrice Sbrocchi (Nicola) the late Leonardo Policelli (Maria), the late Donato Policelli (Maria Grazia), and is survived by Rosa Sabatino (the late Francesco).
Tina had tremendous affection for all her many nieces and nephews, who loved “Aunt Tina” or “Zi’Tina”.

elevated YfEfd She was known for her warm, sparkly eyes and kind smile. She had a big heart, an easy laugh, and showed unfailing generosity, kindness, and respect to everyone.
She was a strong, capable, excellent mother. Not mushy. More like a lioness.

elevated YfEfd She modeled and encouraged independence. She worked hard, inside and outside the home, training in the early 1970s at Marvel Beauty School to become a hair stylist, like Tony, who was both a barber and hair stylist. They were devoted partners in life and work, successively owning and operating two busy salons (Vogue Beauty Salon and Anthony’s Hair Care) in south Mississauga over the span of nearly four decades.

elevated YfEfd Mom loved her hair styling career, working two days of every week with dad. They enjoyed servicing — and chatting with — so many faithful clients over the years.Tina’s family extends our thanks to the PSWs and medical staff at Constitution Place, also to Peel Regional Paramedic Services and the ER team at Mississauga Trillium Hospital. Donations in Tina’s memory can be made to Parkinson Canada (donate@parkinson.ca)
