Obituary
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mom Vida Walsh, who left this world peacefully, surrounded by love. Vida was a source of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Vida was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Walsh, whom she now joins in eternal rest. She cherished her family above all else. She leaves behind her loving children: Mary (Orrin) Edgar, Beverley (Louis) Portelli, Patricia (Andy) MacLeod, and Patrick (Jennifer) Walsh. She was a devoted grandmother to 11 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 5 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. She is predeceased by her two brothers Caleb (Kay) Carter, Ron Carter and she is survived by her sister Veronica (Ignatius) Walsh. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews.
Vida found her greatest happiness in family gatherings, where her laughter and gentle spirit brought everyone together. Christmas was her favourite time of year—her home always filled with warmth, tradition, and the kind of love that made the season feel magical. Newfoundland also held a special place in her heart, connecting her to her roots and filling her with pride and comfort.
Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the love she poured into every moment. We will remember her for her warmth, her feisty spirit and the way she could always make us laugh.
Though we mourn her deeply, we are forever grateful for the years we shared with her. May her beautiful soul rest in gentle peace. We love you mom/nannie.

I’ll always remember Nanny for the excitement her visits brought when I was growing up, the joy and laughter she shares with everyone around her, and the kindness that clearly lives on through her children.
She will be missed, and loved, always.
She will remain a part of my heart and soul for the rest of my life. So grateful for the person that she was. She was always so special, but when she flew in Winter to Labrador, getting stranded en route, for my wedding, all of our Wabush friends were blessed with her as well. One of a kind. She will be remembered, loved and cherished for the rest of my life. Mary, Beverly, Patricia and Pat Jr., you are all loved very much, and we are sending all our strength for you . 💙
My Nan passed away this week, and the world feels so different without her in it.
She was someone who shaped so much of who I am — strong, fiery, fiercely loving, and full of faith. I’m grateful for every laugh, every story, and every moment we shared.
She loved Christmas, yellow roses, and her family with her whole heart. And now she gets to spend Christmas this year with the love of her life whom she hasn’t seen in 28 very long years.
Heaven gained the best angel on Tuesday. We will carry her love with us always.

When my friend and I arrived at Toronto Union Station from Newfoundland in 1967, we had no idea where we would sleep that night. We phoned Vida and she invited us to come to her apartment. Vida and her husband Richard (Paddy) and their daughter Mary Agnes took us in until we could find a place. Unfortunately for Vida and family the apartment below them became available and we moved in. Being young fellows in our late teens we had no idea how to cook or grocery shop. It was much easier to sneak up the back stairs and raid Vida’s fridge, until she caught us. I’ll never forget the dressing down she gave us but there was a twinkle in her eye as she did so.
Her little family was our substitute parents and her and Paddy’s guidance got us off to a great start in the big city.
God Bless you Vida. I will always remember you as my mom away from home. May you rest in peace.

Agnes, Beverley, Theresa & Pat Jr. Heartfelt Sadness to hear of Vidas passing. Many visits she made back to her hometown, Newfoundland & we got to know her very well. Such a delight & the the house lit up when she entered. She was so good at cheering people up. Just to hear her voice put a big smile on my face. I could sit & chat with her all day. She put so much energy into those home visits & I will always remember her favorite meal to come home to & that was Salmon & home grown potatoes. Every year while your grandmother was alive she would send Theresa & I down in the potatoe garden & pick some potatoes on August 10th to have for Vidas Birthday. To this day every year , August 10th I think of your mom , her Birthday. God Bless her. Rest in Peace with your family in Heaven my Friend & May The Angels Guide You Into Paradise ❤️

I will always remember my childhood memories with her smiley eyes, her laughter and sharp wit and my adult years with the same.

Your mom was a wonderful big sister. We had some good phone chats over the years and some wonderful visits since we moved home. She certainly loved her game of 120 and her visits with her friends, especially her good friend Betty Murphy. She had a wonderful family who done everything they could for her. Thanks to Theresa for calling me every Thursday with an update on her condition. We will always keep in touch I hope. Rest in Peace big sister. Love you. Veronica and Ignatius.
