elevated i63rw Obituary
Yee Yul Kim was born in South Korea on February 10, 1940 and immigrated with his wife and two young daughters to Canada in 1975. Like so many Korean immigrants of that era, he and his wife worked tirelessly for years, in a number of small businesses, to provide a better life for their children. Yee always had a drive and entrepreneurial spirit that led him to pursue diverse business opportunities; from drycleaning to donut shops, corner stores to a travel agency, selling cars to selling cigars, and finally the beauty supply business, when he was already in his eighties! Yee was a man that truly loved life and pursued his hobbies as enthusiastically as he did work. He was an avid golfer and an amazing cook. He loved road trips, old Westerns and classical music. He was an active member of the St. Andrew Kim parish while living in Toronto, where he was baptised as “Paul”, and upon moving to Buffalo, New York, he joined the St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Church there. His faith was always important to him but never more so than when he lost his beloved wife of 38 years, Sung-Ryoon Kim, in 2007 and then his elder daughter, Jee-Young Kim in 2018. In spite of these heart-breaking losses, his resilient spirit enabled him to continue to be productive and of service to his community. Although the final two years of his life were marked by serious illness, he never lost his optimism, tenacity and courage. He is survived by his daughter, Jeung-Young Kim, his sister, Kwang-Ok Kim of Mississauga, his four brothers in South Korea, and his numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Yee passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Health Center, in Toronto, on February 15, 2024.
