It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss we announce the peaceful passing of Bertha “Betty” Lima on February 9, 2026, at the age of 91 at Amica Unionville, holding the hand of her loving daughter Suzanne and the presence of her loving Caregiver Lea.

Dear sister of Lucy, who was there for her till the end. Betty will be sadly missed and held dear in the hearts of her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends
elevated KIlsN Betty was born in Kampala, Uganda where she met her husband of 69 years and had her daughter Suzanne. She was an avid sports person playing field hockey, badminton, tennis and squash, winning many trophies in badminton. In later life she made sure to work out regularly.
elevated KIlsN In Uganda she worked for the greater part of her career for The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as the Administrative Assistant to the UN diplomats. Dear Suzanne,
Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your beloved mother. While we did not know her personally in her early years, we did meet with her at AMICA where we visited her to give her communion and attend the Mass and Rosary run by St. Justin Martyr parish. May her soul rest in peace,
My deepest condolences Suzanne. My time with her was very special and I will miss her.
Dear Suzanne
It’s with sad and heavy hearts that Al and I send you our condolences on the passing of your mom and our good friend for many, many years. Even though when we last met you mentioned that she was not doing very well, and Lucy told us the same when we met her recently at yet another funeral – Antonio Mascarenhas – but we didn’t expect it to happen so soon…may her soul rest in eternal peace.
Al and Betty were Classmates in 1947 and 1948 at the Indian Secondary School in Old Kampala and he remembers Betty as a hardworking and competitive sportswoman, be it hockey, badminton or any other sport she took up. And she carried this same enthusiasm and drive in all other aspects of her life, bringing her many successes. Al together with his sister Theresa, even attend her wedding to Francis Lima.
Although it’s more than probable that we might not make it to the other end of the City to attend your mom’s funeral (as Al is no longer comfortable driving that distance with the traffic the way it is) we hope that it will be live streamed so that we can attend online.
Take care of yourself, Suzanne, and please convey our condolences to Lucy and all the family – we know that your mom was much loved by all of them and that they will miss her as will those who lived in the same Retirement Home as she did. We look forward to receiving the final arrangements so that we can make sure that we’ll be free to attend the Mass online.
With heartfelt sympathy
Al & Edna

Such sad news. I knew your Mum and Dad through my time at Monarch Plastics. Betty and I had many conversations during our lunch hour, she always had interesting topics to talk about and for me to listen to. She always had a glint in her eyes when she had private/funny comments to say to myself and her favorite conspirator Dan Snow.
Dear Suzanne,
Please accept our deep condolences on the passing of your Mum.
My recollection of your Mum, ‘Aunty Betty’ is of the tall, graceful lady – the mum of my best friend across the road at Mackenzie Vale. May she now rest in the arms of our living God. Love and prayers Jennifer and the de Lima family in Australia.
We are saddened to hear of your loss. As a devoted and faithful-filled person, Betty lived a life that reflected kindness and compassion and service to others.
Having been long-time neighbors, we will always remember the warmth, goodness, and generosity that defined your family. Please know that our heartfelt condolences go out to Suzanne and the entire family during this difficult time.
May your faith bring you comfort, and may the many cherished memories bring you peace.
Dear Suzanne,
My deep condolences on the loss of your beloved mother and to all the members of your family. I know how much she will be missed by you and by so many others. You were incredibly devoted to her and your dad for so many years. I am glad you were able to be with her during the final moments. I also know that meant a great deal to both of you.
Your mom was truly remarkable. I enjoyed her appreciation of living a good and proper life, her quick wit, and her legendary ability on the stock market from which I picked up a few great tips. I love hearing the stories you tell about her. Her incredible resilience, warmth, and generosity always show through in those recollections.
She will now join her beloved husband of almost 70 years. I know that she left us in as much comfort as anyone could and with the security of you there by her side.
Rest in peace Betty.
Condolences,
Trevor
Dear Suzanne,
Our deepest condolences to you, Lucy, and your family.
I always admired Betty’s independence, work ethic and dedication to you and her family. She and I often shared a laugh (at your expense) and I always enjoyed talking finance and investments with Betty.
Upon her retirement, I admired that she kept busy with her day trading investments, and her part time work with Clem and Theresa’s pop-up clothing sales, and also held her own sales with her group of friends.
She always made me feel part of the overall family and I was often included in many large dinner gatherings.
May she rest in peace.

Dear Suzanne
Our condolences on the passing of your mum.
May A Betty rest in eternal peace.
Our deepest sympathy Suzanne and Lucy on the passing of your dear mum and sister. We were so fortunate to have met mum a few years ago at a funeral, and not too long ago a chat over the phone. Happy memories of our times in Kampala and in Canada when you Suzanne kept Ashley, Gail, Carlton and Lynette company at nights while we, parents, attended the GOA dances.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
