Obituary
elevated jyYCm It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Daniel Lucchese on April 23, 2021, at the age of 87 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Antonietta; his children Anna (Pino Lavecchia), Robert (Karen Argow), Peter, and Greg (Emily); and his grandchildren Gabrielle, Max, Oliver, Desmond, and Archer.
elevated jyYCm Daniel was born on September 5, 1933 in San Giovanni di Livenza, Italy. He came to Canada with his parents and younger sister and brother at the age of 16. Without knowing a word of English, he worked hard to help his family prosper. He took on any job he could find. One of his first jobs was working in a green house. His passion for gardening was evident with all of his co-workers as he took such great care and pride in watching his plants flourish.
elevated jyYCm He then moved on to seize and opportunity as an auto mechanic apprentice. He was very eager to learn all that he could about the “nuts and bolts” of an automobile. He continually took courses to improve his knowledge and even attended Ryerson University for Mechanical Engineering, while simultaneously working full-time and raising a young family.
elevated jyYCm His drive and and strong work ethic led him to a long-standing career with the City of Etobicoke – department of Fleet Operations. He was admired by all of his co-workers and supervisors for his strong work ethic, his knowledge and his willingness to share his knowledge. He ended his 27-year career with the “City” in a managerial position – but his true love was rolling up his sleeves and working under the hood of a vehicle, and was often found doing just that.
elevated jyYCm Retirement found Daniel busier than ever. He maintained an impeccably manicured garden and helped others with their own; he assisted family and friends alike with vehicle maintenance and repairs; at a moment’s notice he would run to the assistance of anyone in need….no task was too hard nor was it too great. His mantra was “WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY”….. and for him, there was ALWAYS a way.
elevated jyYCm Daniel will always be remembered as a strong, honest, hard-working, resilient man… always willing to lend a helping hand. Although his greatest passions in life were gardening, wine-making and tinkering with cars,
elevated jyYCm nothing gave him greater joy than his family, and in particular his grandchildren. He guided all of them to live life with the philosophy and strong belief in the values of faith, honesty and kindness to others. He would do anything for them, and did. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Antonietta. Any request she had, he was quick to fulfill. She never doubted that all would be taken care of with Daniel by her side. In faith and love they could conquer all. He had a soft spot for all of his grandchildren. The sky was the limit when it came to them. One hot summer he created a backyard waterpark just for them. For them, it was more fun than going to any theme park, and for Nonno, it was the greatest reward in watching their excitement. Nonno’s house was, without a doubt, the envy of the neighborhood.
elevated jyYCm Daniel’s diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease, 11 years ago did not slow him down. His resilience and strong-will pushed him to work harder to carry out his daily activities and pursue his hobbies. As the years passed and his Parkinson’s presented greater challenges, he never complained, but yet persevered even stronger. He fought stoically right through to the last lap of the race.
elevated jyYCm Daniel will always be remembered as a man both strong and good,
elevated jyYCm who always gave his best for others and who always did the best he could.
elevated jyYCm A man of resilience and stoicism admired by all around,
elevated jyYCm no greater man in this world could ever be found.

Zio Comparo, was always happy to see the extended family. I enjoyed talking to him about just about anything. He was always so positive and had kind words to share. He was a good person and I will miss him deeply. I find some comfort knowing he is in a better place and I hope you all do too.
Dear Cousins Robert, Anna, Peter, Greg
I want to offer our deepest condolences on the passing of your father. I have many fond memories of your dad, from the olden days. I have memories of your mom and dad before they were married. When I was a toddler, Uncle Danny was my big buddy. I think of him all the time and I will always remember him fondly.
I’m sorry we can’t be with you during this covid crisis. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
L. Pannolino Family
Dear Zia Antoinette,
Ann, Robert, Peter, Greg
Bill, Josh, Alex and myself are sending you our most deepest heartfelt condolences.
Uncle Danny was such a strong presence at our many family gatherings. He always greeted you with his amazing smile and was always interested in what you had to say.
I have countless childhood
memories. Spending many a summer at the Goduto/Pannolino/ Lucchese cottage.
One memory that I will always treasure is when the Lucchese’s would drive up to Wasaga Beach to visit us after we moved permanently from Toronto. All us cousins would pile up in the back of Uncle Danny’s station wagon…… no seat belts or passenger limits in those days!
We had all our towels and floating devices and tons of food and headed off to the water for a fun filled day at the beach. Or head out for a ride on the Lucchese boat.
Such loving memories that will stay with me always.
I wish we could be with you in person and give you all hugs. I pray for the day this horrific virus comes to an end and we can reunite as a family “breaking bread” and sharing loving stories about this amazing man.
Rest well Uncle Danny you will be missed but never forgotten.
Love always, Gloria, Bill, Josh and Alex xoxo
Dear Aunt Antoinette,
Ann, Robert, Peter, Greg
Our deepest condolences to all of the family. He will be missed and I am sure he is in a better place.
I have some very fond memories of driving to Rochester with him when I was small. The trip seemed endless and he would always entertain me overcoming my constant question of “are we there yet”. He was always willing to listen, participate in conversations, and always ready to help. His advise was appreciated.
Dear Zia Antoinetta, Ana, Robert, Peter and Greg,
Our deepest condolences to all the family. Zio Danny will be missed and was loved by all.
We are with you in spirit and sending virtual hugs and support.
Memories of all the family reunions came to mind. Good times! All of us together. Zio Danny had a great sense of humour and a great story teller.
Love always,
Steve, Carrie, Anthony, Johanna, Elena, Tabitha, Josh, Caleb and Hailey. Xoxoxo
Dear Zia Antonietta, Anna, Robert, Peter and Greg,
We are so saddened by the passing of Uncle Danny. I have so many fond memories of him, many dating back to our childhood when I would often spend a week in the summer at your house, or you would spend time at Wasaga Beach. Those large family gatherings we will always remember. Uncle Danny was such a central figure and such a strong part of those memories. He always had a big smile, a kind word, a funny story and lots of conversation to share. I will always remember him as a strong man, a supportive father, a loving husband, a doting grandfather and a kind uncle. We will miss him dearly.
It is painful to be unable to be with you at this time, but know that we are with you in our thoughts.
Sending much love and many hugs your way,
Patricia, Chuck, Sydney and Noah
xoxo
Our deepest condolences to the the Lucchese family on the passing of Daniel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
Dear Zia Comare, Anna, Robert, Peter, Greg and family.
It saddens me to hear about the passing of Zio Compare. I have such great memories of him, especially when I was younger and would always spend a week or two in the summer at your house. It was so much fun, and certainly intriguing to a young boy watching Zio Compare working on the many cars you always had at your house. And the memories of all the times that you would all come up to Wasaga Beach and we were all together. I will never forget when Zio Compare took me to Blue Mountain Go-Karts (Greg, I believe you were there also). It was my first time driving a Go-Kart and I was fairly nervous, but Zio Compare talked me though it and encouraged me! He was larger than life!
I will never forget him and his memory lives on in all of us, which is a true testament of the person that he was!
My thoughts and prayer are with you all at this challenging time.
Love always, Blaise xoxo
So sorry to hear about your loss Anna. Our deepest sympathies during this difficult time. May you be be comforted knowing that he is in a better place.
