Obituary

elevated 8k4XV It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Daniel Lucchese on April 23, 2021, at the age of 87 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Antonietta; his children Anna (Pino Lavecchia), Robert (Karen Argow), Peter, and Greg (Emily); and his grandchildren Gabrielle, Max, Oliver, Desmond, and Archer.

elevated 8k4XV Daniel was born on September 5, 1933 in San Giovanni di Livenza, Italy. He came to Canada with his parents and younger sister and brother at the age of 16. Without knowing a word of English, he worked hard to help his family prosper. He took on any job he could find. One of his first jobs was working in a green house. His passion for gardening was evident with all of his co-workers as he took such great care and pride in watching his plants flourish.

elevated 8k4XV He then moved on to seize and opportunity as an auto mechanic apprentice. He was very eager to learn all that he could about the “nuts and bolts”  of an automobile. He continually took courses to improve his knowledge and even attended Ryerson University for Mechanical Engineering, while simultaneously working full-time and raising a young family.

elevated 8k4XV His drive and and strong work ethic led him to a long-standing career with the City of Etobicoke – department of Fleet Operations. He was admired by all of his co-workers and supervisors for his strong work ethic, his knowledge and his willingness to share his knowledge. He ended his 27-year career with the “City” in a managerial position – but his true love was rolling up his sleeves and working under the hood of a vehicle, and was often found doing just that.

elevated 8k4XV Retirement found Daniel busier than ever. He maintained an impeccably manicured garden and helped others with their own; he assisted family and friends alike with vehicle maintenance and repairs; at a moment’s notice he would run to the assistance of anyone in need….no task was too hard nor was it too great. His mantra was “WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY”….. and for him,  there was ALWAYS  a way.

elevated 8k4XV Daniel will always be remembered as a strong, honest,  hard-working, resilient man… always willing to lend a helping hand.  Although his greatest passions in life were gardening, wine-making and tinkering with cars,

elevated 8k4XV nothing gave him greater joy than his family, and in particular his grandchildren. He guided all of them to live life with the philosophy and strong  belief in the values of faith, honesty and kindness to others.  He would do anything for them, and did.  He was a devoted husband to his wife, Antonietta.  Any request she had, he was quick to fulfill. She never doubted that all would be taken care of with Daniel by her side. In faith and love they could conquer all. He had a soft spot for all of his grandchildren. The sky was the limit when it came to them.  One hot summer he created a backyard waterpark just for them.  For them, it was more fun than going to any theme park, and for Nonno, it was the greatest reward in watching their excitement.  Nonno’s house was, without a doubt, the envy of the neighborhood.

elevated 8k4XV Daniel’s diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease, 11 years ago did not slow him down. His resilience and strong-will pushed him to work harder to carry out his daily activities and pursue his hobbies. As the years passed and his Parkinson’s presented greater challenges, he never complained, but yet persevered even stronger. He fought stoically right through to the last lap of the race.

elevated 8k4XV Daniel will always be remembered as a man both strong and good,

elevated 8k4XV who always gave his best for others and who always did the best he could.

elevated 8k4XV A man of resilience and stoicism admired by all around,

elevated 8k4XV no greater man in this world could ever be found.
