elevated rNUHw The Keys family is sad to announce the passing of J. Ross Keys at his home on April 16, 2019. The son of John and Lera, and one of the world’s kindest souls, he will be missed by everyone who knew him, especially his wife Teresa, children Christine and Michael, and his siblings Bob (June) and Kathryn deVries (Bart). A dedicated Mechanical Engineer, a lover of politics, and a brilliant man, Ross could make anyone laugh until they cried. His stories and laughter will be missed, but never forgotten. Go Vikings! In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Ross’ name to the charity of your choice, because he always gave to anyone who asked.

A flood of memories pour over me as I think back on the 110 Venturers group of which Moose was a key member. Always able to deliver a laugh in our weekly meetings and a bruising body check in our floor hockey games, I am deeply saddened by his passing. But I will treasure the legacy of his infectious smile always. My prayers are with the family in the days ahead. Rest in peace my good friend.

We are so sad to hear about Ross’s passing. Ross was loved by everyone he touched. I have fond memories of Ross living with our family in the 70’s while he attended Carleton U for a year. It was like having another playful big brother around who would drive us places, take us skiing and make us laugh. He was always such a good-natured bright light who will be remembered for his wit, generosity and soft loving ways. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ross’s family at this difficult time. My condolences to the Keys family. I grew up with them on Thursfield and then Rykert Crescent. Many fun street hockey games were played! Moose/ Ross was such a kind, love-able guy, like a big brother at times. Very difficult time ahead.

I was very fortunate to work with Ross on many projects for many years. We had our own team, and Ross was the integral link. Over the years, Ross and I became great friends, we shared many laughs together, we shared a love of music, along with discussions about our families.
Ross had an infectious laugh, and his knowledge in the propane industry was 2nd to none.
Ross will certainly be missed.

I never knew who Ross was for years – he was always just Moose! Typical Leasider to be known by nick name only! Moose was a kind and gentle soul. He always treated his younger brother Bob’s friends with kindness and respect and he was always genuinely interested in what you were up to in life. I can still see Moose running down the field at LHS, football in hand, and several would be tacklers trying to take him down – he was a force and he will no doubt be missed by family and friends. Peace be with you.
I will miss Moose, he was a wonderful guy and a fellow Elvis fan. My thoughts go out to his family. Boskung will miss him.

Please know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers my sincerest condolences for an incredibly great loss. I”LL never forget Moose he was like a Big Brother I never had, he was so kind to me and my family that I have tears just thinking of him at this time. I could tell you hundreds of stories about Moose, and each one funnier than the next, he always brighten your day, I will miss that.

One of my oldest and best friends, a person I admired throughout all the years I knew him, for his kindness, his intellect and his passion for many things in life – sports, music, politics, his family and his friends. I cannot count the number of good times we had in life, from high school days at LHS, scouting and venturers at the 110th, university experiences in engineering, cottaging at Boshkung, Gull Lake or Shadow Lake, going to concerts……. So many memories, so many laughs….Such a good man, one of those rare people in life whom everyone loved, without exception. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to Teresa, Michael and Christine, and to Bob and June, Kathy and Bart. I will miss him ….. rest in peace my dear friend….

So many memories come rushing back to me. I’m smiling thru tears as I think of them all. I must have spent as much time at 113 as I did at 105 Rykert not to mention most summers at Boshkung. I loved Ross like a big brother As well as the whole Keys family. He was such a kind and gentle soul. He put up with Kathy and I constantly bugging him with only a hint of frustration.

I, like many here, grew up in Leaside just down the street from the Keys family. Many wonderful memories from those days, including road hockey in the Rykert Circle (with freshly made steam-curved sticks courtesy of the Keys household) and Moose’s great intellect, sense of humor and his passion for sports and music. I still see him in his Vikes sweater honoring Terry Kath of the band Chicago. And that great laugh and smile – unforgettable.
A good man gone far too soon. May God rest his soul.

Keysal: I just learned of the news about Moose through Gary Wilsher. Moose and I last spoke at John’s memorial service in 2012. So special that both of you were at that event. I am truly sorry for the loss Keysal. He was always very kind to me. I recall with fondness a time that he and I went for a run in the valley and I had him doing a series of jump moves that I swear, looking back on it, could have resulted in a broken ankle. But he did them, and well! I too see him being the ‘go-to-guy’ on the football field at LHS, 3-4 opponents hanging off of him as he made extra yardage, play after play. I also admired how he gutted out the completion of his degree in Ottawa. His humour was beyond compare. The world is a lesser place because of his absence.

I was very surprised and sad to find out that Ross passed away. I was surfing the net yesterday (Nov. 11, 2021) and by chance came across his obit. Ross was honest, very technically competent and he loved his family. A fine human being.
Friends and business associates will always fondly remember him.
