John Shurlock Munian passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 77.

elevated 2dNYU He was born at 10 Dowding St, Kitty, Georgetown, Guyana, on April 23, 1947, to Luchmin Hilda Munian and Madray Muthoo James Munian.

elevated 2dNYU John was an extraordinary man who left a profound and lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to love, kindness, and strength.

elevated 2dNYU He is survived by his beloved wife, Latchmin “Geeta”, and his children: John Roland, Ronald Richard, Joshua Cecil, and Randy James (predeceased); his daughters, Anansa Aleta, Samantha Maria, Alisha Felicia, and Valerie Hilda; daughters-in-laws Jocelyn and Ashley; and son-in-law Walter.

elevated 2dNYU John was a cherished grandfather to Jessica, Shania, Rolena, Navindra, Tyrone, Evander Tyrese, Dylan, Sayha, Ralex, Rydel, Sheneice, Canon, Alyssa, Logan, Ariana, Marissa, Kyle, Kendall, Kalvin, Sophie, and Sebastian. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Piper, Deacon, Jaxson, Zane, Gunnar, Niya, Da’khaii Amari, Arielle, Tyrell. 

elevated 2dNYU He is also survived by his siblings: Lena (predeceased), Hermese (predeceased), Moses (predeceased), Roland  (predeceased), Michael  (predeceased), Herma, Cinthya, Lona (predeceased), and James, along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

elevated 2dNYU On January 19, 1969, he immigrated to Canada to study and secure his permanent residency. Throughout his life, he held various positions, was self-employed, and worked in multiple industries, earning the reputation of being a “Jack of all trades, master of none.” His last role was at Protek Bodies as a fiberglass maker, where he worked until retiring at the age of 70.

elevated 2dNYU John will be remembered for his vibrant sense of humor, his love for dancing—especially with his wife, Geeta—and his ability to make everyone around him feel welcome. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back and expect nothing in return, always acting out of the goodness of his heart.

elevated 2dNYU John deeply loved his family, including his wife, children, son-in-laws, daughters-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His impeccable style, love for cooking, and dedication to his family made him the heart and soul of every family gathering. No celebration was complete without his delicious dishes, lovingly prepared to bring joy to everyone.

elevated 2dNYU John was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. His legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
