elevated 45L2O The Life and Legacy of Marcus
elevated 45L2O Born in Zanzibar, Marcus was forced to grow up quickly when he was sent to boarding school in Belgaum, Goa, India at the age of 8. He returned to Zanzibar when he was 17 years old where he spent a short time with his family before moving to Nairobi, Kenya to work for East African Airways. Marcus moved on to the City Council of Nairobi where he received an honorary award for 25 years of service and was named “most honest man to work in the Treasury Department” by Mayor Margaret Kenyatta. In 1980, Marcus and Molly decided to immigrate to Canada. With four kids to raise, they had to work hard at starting a new life. Forty years later, they have grown their family to be as industrious and caring as they were.
elevated 45L2O Marcus was a man of few words, but when he spoke, everybody listened. We were fortunate to have him as a dad and our ‘Papa’ and have learned so much from his actions. He had many talents amongst which was his passion for cricket. Marcus was also exceptionally good with his hands, both in his workshop and in the kitchen. His warm and generous personality will be remembered by all–forever ready to help friends and family in need. All he would ask is that you pay it forward.
elevated 45L2O Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 1:30pm, followed by the burial service at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Please join via livestream to view the service https://www.etherelive.com/marcus-rodrigues Personal sentiments can be added to the Condolences and Tributes or sent to mjrodrig29@gmail.com.

A man of few words has left me with a lifetime of memories:
Like the time he hand carved our family dining room table.
And when he “stepped-in” at my christening.
His Thursday evening visits at Deerbrook Trail.
His bread pudding.
His regular use of Brylcreem.
Our Rodrigues summer getaways.
The Rodrigues brotherly bond.
When he did what needed to be done without anyone asking.
His silent wisdom.
Our simple but meaningful conversations.
Our last video call.
Now, it’s his turn to “lagau”.
Be at peace, Uncle Marcus.
Our deepest sympathy to the Rodrigues family. May his soul rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon him. He was a lovely man.
My association with your Dad goes over 70 years and he, your uncle Anthony, and I were boarders in Belgaum.
We later met where We both worked for the Nairobi City Council.
On retirement, he moved to Canada and I to England but visited each other on our holiday visits. We also kept in regular touch over the phone till very recently.
I fondly remember our weekend fishing trips where we slept in the open air. Catches were small but the fun great. We also had to take turns during the night on sentry duties in case the lions came looking for a meal.
May the soul of Marcus and Molly rest in peace.
Francis Saldanha, London.
Our sincere condolences to the Rodrigues family.
