elevated bh6s3 Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Joseph Malachy Rice announce his passing on January 20, 2026, in his 91st year. He was born October 6, 1934 in Ballynahinch, Down Patrick, Ireland to Peter and Margaret Rice (nee McKeown).
elevated bh6s3 After growing up in Burton-on-Trent, England, Malachy emigrated to Toronto, Canada to join his uncles, brothers and sister, and this is where he’d soon meet his wife, Eta Melody. Though a stoic man by nature, he cared for loved ones deeply, and delighted them with his subtle, unexpected humour. Malachy dedicated his life to helping members of his family and his greater community.
elevated bh6s3 He is predeceased by his wife, Eta. He is survived by his sons Paul (Christine) and Michael, his daughters Denise and Adrienne, grandchildren Maeve, Kate and Iain and great granddaughter Caitriona. He also leaves a sister Kathleen, niece and nephew, Marguerita and Sean Kilgallon and sisters in law, Anna & Ethel and many other deeply loved relatives.
elevated bh6s3 The visitation will be held on Monday, January 26th at Immaculate Conception Church (2 Richardson Avenue, Toronto) from 10-11am followed by a Funeral Mass commencing at 11:00am. Deepest sympathy to Denise paul micheal and adrienne and all the Rice family on the passing of dear malachy.many lovely memories of malachy and aunt ita and childrem visiting us in ireland.malachy was also my godfather.may his gentle soul rest in eternal happiness and peace forever.
Malachy was a wonderful uncle committed to his family. He was a quiet, generous man, resilient at times with a strong devotion to his faith. He was also a great dancer as witnessed at Mac and Maeve’s wedding where he received a round of applause for his style. Like his own dad he loved his flowers and garden. Our visits never lacked conversation or laughter served up with tea and cake.I will cherish all these memories dearly. My love, prayers and sympathy to Paul, Christine, Denise, Mike, Adrienne, Maeve, Mac, Catrionia,Kate and Iain in the loss of their dear dad, father-in-law, grandad and great-grandad. May he rest in eternal peace.
