I’m so sorry, my heartfelt/deepest comdolences!
My dear Tia Teresa,
You departed, but the memories, the family old stories, the old movie sessions, and most of all your laugh and joy will stay with us.
You know, I still remember the joy of seeing your little ‘baratinha’ red car arriving at the Garoupa’s on Canada da Cruz. Your fancy shades, your pointy bright shoes, your french fashionista dresses!
I can see the colorful birds atop the entrance stairs at your magical ‘casa da cidade’, on Rua dos Mercadores.
But I’ll dearly miss our phone conversations, reviving old Agua d’Alto recollections, the family idiosyncrasies (and your never ending patience to answer my questions, even the more risqué – properly encapsulated in all the saints, psalms and prayers – but never refusing an answer!)
Yes, I’ll keep digging to find the descendants/our cousins, of Bisavo’ Teresa’s sister, Tia Francisca Frias, ostracized for having married a ‘senhor de Cabo Verde’. I guess you placed it on my plate to appease the gods for the family racist sin. ‘Procura Pedrinho, procura Pedrinho!’
And thank you so much for making me the ‘memories guardian’ of Tio Carlos Alberto precious movies. I continue to ‘read’, learn and enjoy watching it. (Titia, I’ve a ‘secret’ for you: I’ve been learning to read from the eyes of the beholder, the detail oriented goldsmith, aesthetically pure and art sensitive husband of yours. What a keen eye for beauty!
(Of course you knew all of it, he picked you!)
Hey, I can see you smiling!
Titia, the picture of your ‘triple’ wedding at the Garoupa’s Camelot still brightens my days!
A sua benção!
Pedro
