elevated IzgiL It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Rebello, who died peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of 76, on May 13, 2025, the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.
elevated IzgiL Beloved and devoted husband of 54 years to Louise. Loving father of Paul, Stephen (Liz), Mark (Anne), David (Jean), Mary (Fintan Farrell), John (Amy), Anne (Peter Skrepichuk), Martin (Natalie), Clare (Emmanuel Nazaire), Catherine (Delmon Jno Baptiste) and Sarah.

elevated IzgiL Dearest brother of the late June (Erwin Roy), Maryann (the late Nick Wolkowski) and Charles. Brother-in-law to Walter (Joelly), Maureen, Kerry (Melinda), Tammy (Fred Cole), and Brian (Linda).
elevated IzgiL Peter was born in Bombay, India and as a 16 year old, immigrated to Montreal with his family. He studied mechanical engineering at McGill University, where he met the love of his life, Louise. It was in these university years that Peter met Opus Dei, whose spirit would inspire his entire life. He had no idea what adventure was in store!
elevated IzgiL Their young family kept growing, and by 1992, there were eleven wonderful children. Always concerned with the education of their children, Peter and Louise were involved in the founding of Hawthorn School, a community that Peter was fully engaged with, right up until his death.
elevated IzgiL As their children grew up and started families of their own, Peter and Louise were overjoyed that many chose to establish their lives around the family home, developing a very close sense of community that he often referred to as the “Rebello Village”.
elevated IzgiL Peter was a well respected presence in the building materials industry. His career spanned over four decades, and brought him all across Canada, where he developed deep and enduring friendships that lasted a lifetime.
elevated IzgiL Peter’s faith was an ever-widening wave that touched larger and larger circles of the greater community. Whether he was criss-crossing the country or welcoming people into his home, he was always ready to share food, drink, music and warm conversation. He delighted in noticing a person’s needs and wants, and delighted more in being able to figure out how to move heaven and earth to be able to provide it. He cared deeply for the genuine happiness of each person, and took the time to listen and respond. His generosity was contagious.
elevated IzgiL Peter’s spirit and legacy will live on in the countless friendships he made, the lessons he taught, and the family he so dearly nurtured. His was a life truly well-lived—one of love and faith.

I first met Peter 4 years ago. And as soon as I arrived at his house with a friend, he invited us to dine with the family. The conversation we had that day appeared to be that of longtime friends. Dear Louise and family, I am a testament to the true words shared about the life of kindness and love Peter lived and showed to all around him.
Peter was a great friend and support to my husband during his illness, and up to his final seconds here on earth. The rosary he was saying hours before he passed on, and which he eventually took to his grave, was Peter’s. That is how much of a family you and Peter became to us in the most difficult season of our lives.
Peter was a wonderful soul and had a deep desire to make people happy. He took over the grocery shopping for my family, and did the hospital runs for Chichi including the difficult visit to the doctor where we got the saddest news. Peter also ensured that Chi’s spiritual needs where catered to as he frequently took him to the centre to see a priest of the work.
He sought hard to help me find me a job when I was new to Canada, and you both went above and beyond to help us settle in.
I could go on and on about Peter. However, I know that Peter has gone to be with the Lord and with his friend, Chi and I will try to take consolation in that.

From the moment I met Peter in the summer of 2023 he had a tremendous impact on my life. Peter has taught me how to deepen my faith, how to be a better father, how to work harder, how to keep light and joyful (even in the midst of tremendous suffering), how to use my mind and think strategically, how to give to others. He was such a remarkable man. A true Christian. I’m lucky to have met him. I will miss him.

My wife and I send our sincere condolences. We are saddened by the news of Peter’s death but give glory to God for the life he lived. His life was that of service to humanity, and touched us positively. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
When my family first arrived in Toronto and found themselves stranded after a canceled flight, not knowing anyone, Peter Rebello and his wife Louise welcomed them with open arms. They took them in and became family. From that moment, Peter never stopped checking in on us. His kindness, warmth, and quiet generosity left a lasting mark on our lives. Our daughters, Dili and Zina, have since formed beautiful friendships with his grandchildren, a bond that continues his legacy of connection and care.
Ngozi, the girls and I mourn the loss of a truly good man. Peter, thank you for everything. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
To Louise and all of the Rebello family, we extend our deepest sympathies. I have know Peter and Louise for over 20 years when I was in the building materials business. Peter was my favourite supplier because he was honest, true to his word, and a pleasure to work with. We became very good friends and I took a few trips with Peter. My kids got to know him and were both very saddened to learn of Peter’s passing. My son commented yesterday that he was going to raise a glass of wine for him because Peter was the first one to introduce him to a wine he liked. I believe it was a California red Zinfandel, always a favoutite of Peter’s. I have a favourite memory of sitting in Peter and Louise’s living room and over the course of a few hours, 8 or 9 of their kids came through, some with their spouses, all stopping by to see their parents. I have never known a closer family. My wife and I will greatly miss this outstanding man. I will miss his phone calls on my birthday and Christmas every year. The words in the obituary describe Peter perfectly. He was truly larger than life. Rest in peace, my friend. You’ve earned it.

Ron and I are deeply saddened to hear of Peter’s passing. We had a phone visit with him in early January where he shared his news with us, but spoke with yet such ease, as he seemed to understand how to travel this journey. After our call I simply took a breath at hearing his words and thought…
“What a gentle and brave man.” Peter always defined the meaning of “Gentle man” and we were always drawn to him for his ease of conversation and wonderful sense of humour! You just wanted to be in his and Louise’s company.Family is so important right now and what a legacy Peter has in all of you.May you find the strength you all need as you treasure fondly memories of a lovely man!
We are going to miss Peter very much Just last month I spoke to Peter, always caring always ready to talk I had no idea we would get this news so soon. He left a wonderful and gentle stamp on us but especially Gary.
He would call Gary just to say hello and his soft gentle Guidance always made us appreciate our friendship with the Louise Peter and the Rebello family.
I cannot imagine how much love and influence he imparted on his family. His is a life well lived WHAT A LEGACY he left behind.

Dear Louise and the entire Rebello family,
Peter and I go back a few (?) decades, well into the previous century.
Peter was an older brother to me. We had an amazing time together in the leadership team at the very beginnings of Wellspring Cultural Foundation in the 1981-82 timeframe. We enjoyed each other’s company, while acquiring those first centres in Toronto.
Peter was also a warm friend who was always present, even when I left Toronto in 1991 to return to Montreal. I was extremely touched and grateful when he spent time with my late uncle Shon, during the latter’s last few weeks on earth. Even after my uncle’s passing, he text messaged me at each death anniversary.
My most recent message from Peter came less than two months ago, to provide me some necessary information I had requested for a member of my family.
Not only do I miss Peter enormously, but I hope to follow his impressive example and inspiration as he was truly a ‘man for others’ – and yes, I do hope he and I will be able to spend many good moments together with so many of our loved ones, when it is time to move on…
Thanks for your life among us, Peter. Life would be so wonderful with more persons like you among us!

Since Roger’s passing in 2023,I have come to realize the great joy of times spent together. Paul sent me your recent family portrait. You are in my prayers.
I’ve been in Canada for 10 years now. Like Peter I immigrated to Canada at 16. And like Peter I came from Opus Dei.
Since being here, I’ve really struggled with the question of: “What does it mean to be Canadian?”
Canada is a place filled with representatives from everywhere in the world. So many different languages are spoken here, so many religions being held in one country, so many tribes and so many ethnic groups.
What unifies us? What is the ideal? Who are we? And what should we aim for?
I’ve checked the internet, researched books and even asked ChatGPT.
They all gave different answers. And while I thought I got the idea, I never found a satisfying answer.
Finally, I met Peter. I didn’t know what it meant to be Canadian, until I met him.
Since being friends with Peter, through his decisions, actions and accomplishments. I realized that the ideal Canadian, is honest, hard working, cares for family, cares for friends and cares of the community.
He isn’t just the ideal Canadian.
He is the Canadian I strive to be.

Dear Rebello Family,
I had the chance to meet Peter a few times at Cedarcrest annual retreats. On the Sunday luncheon of my most recent retreat (the day of the ice storm), he sat next to me and we had a really great chat. I remember he told me about his family, his son who went to Hong Kong and China, and how he’d host big feasts in his backyard. He was also planning to have a coffee with an old friend right after the retreat (in the ice storm? yeah what’s to worry about?). He was so proud of his kids and full of love for his family and friends.
But what really stood out about Peter was his humility and generosity. From the very first time I met him, I knew he was someone who loved God and was his faithful servant. I’m so lucky to know him as a friend, and I’ll miss him dearly. I wish I had met him sooner in my life.

Louise, for you as with my wife Heather, life with a Mechanical Engineer who travels for work, can be challenging while raising a family. You have done so well and with your Peter have built a storied “Rebello Tribe and Village.” Thanking both you and Peter for the gift of being a small part of this journey along with your daughter Anne for our Peter.
I will remember Peter Rebello when we travel out on Lake Superior to our Fish Camp and regale some of his stories around the fire knowing that his spirit is near even though we never had the chance to really fish together.

Wow! Speechless , shocked cannot define the feeling. You made me come to Canada for the first time! Picked me up from the airport and straight to your home to have a meal! To unburden the pain in my heart. You ensured I went back to the UK feeling lighter…’Ike come let’s talk’ . Hello Ike how are you feeling…how was your procedure? Our Lord loves you. Don’t lose hope. I will continue praying for you. Ike pray for me, I have to see the doctor. These were our last conversations. An angel that came as human. So sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. My heartfelt condolences to all of you. Peter was a wonderful cousin and I will miss him dearly. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult and sad time.
My deepest condolences to Louise and family for the passing away of Peter. A phrase applied to St. Thomas More, “A man for all seasons”, is fully applicable to Peter, and the Church reassures us in her liturgy that “life is changed but not ended”.
It has been my pleasure and privilege to know Peter since his high school years in Montreal. My last contact with him was a month ago in which he thanked me for a book which I had loaned him.
The book is relevant to indicating one of Peter’s many qualities. It is titled “Virtuous Leadership”, a two-word title which nicely sums up its objective. Peter used it (and others) in a series of seminars which he organized on professional ethics for a group of fellow professionals. This was one of many examples of how he was always on the lookout for a way to help others.

My deepest condolences on Peter’s passing. The large number of tributes are testimony to the number of people Peter touched and impacted over the years. I have known Peter since our days with Building Products of Canada well over 35 years ago. Our paths continued to cross throughout the years although with separate companies. He was extremely kind and mindful of those around him and always interested in you and your family.
The industry lost a tremendous ambassador when he retired in 2019 and now we all must say a final good bye to our dear friend.
Please take comfort in the many memories and stories you shared together. They will remain in your hearts forever.

Dear Louise, Krisztina and I are saddened and shocked to hear the news. Peter was such an inspiration, an amazing man and mentor to me who was always present in our lives with his whole caring heart. We miss him dearly. We know God a new Angel by his side. May he Rest in Peace.

I only got to know Peter in the last year or so, but what a blessing to have met this wonderful man. His hospitality, graciousness and genuine interest and care for others struck me deeply. This was a man clearly filled with Christ and I have no doubt he will be seeing Him soon.

Peter’s passing was such sad news to receive. My sincere condolences go out to Louise and the entire family.
I first met Peter in the 80s when he worked with my father and I got to know him even better when I worked for him in the mid 90s at BPCO Acton.
Peter was a lovely person, very kind, very smart, very humble. Wholeheartedly a family man and one who cherished his friendships. May he rest in peace.
Dear Louise and the whole Rebello family, I had the pleasure of knowing Peter since I began work with him for my 6 of his many more years at LP. He was kind, empathetic and generous with his knowledge and experience. I have had the pleasure of speaking to him several times a year since and have always appreciated his advice, as well as his humour and positivity. I was away for the funeral and have been meaning to leave a brief note to let you know how much I appreciated Peter and all he did for me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Peter was a true friend and we spoke a few times a year even after I retired in 2018. I will miss those conversations.
Peter will be missed, may God you and your family comfort and peace knowing he is in a better place.

Several years ago, before we both had retired, we were traveling together in Peter’s van coming home from Orillia. It was blowing and snowing heavily , and the van did a complete 360 on Hwy 11. By God’s grace, we survived that scare but we shared many laughs about that experience since.
Louise, we offer our deepest condolences to you and your family in your loss of Peter.
I met Peter in 1991 in the building materials business. He was always a tough negotiator, but always a fair one. We quickly grew to be good friends, and as well as maintained a strong business relationship.
Peter was always a kind and thoughtful man and after we both retired, we continued to stay in touch regularly to compare notes on what was happening in the world and in our own lives.
To say I will miss those conversations does not begin to express my feelings.
